School Performance Tour

We really believe in the importance of arts integration at all ages, but especially during adolescence. In order to get more performing arts in front of youth on Maui, we bring the performing arts right to their schools! MAPA’s School Performance Tour reaches over 7,000 children (pre-school through grade 5) on Maui annually with live performances by professional actors. The tour addresses topical issues like character, friendship, integrity and bullying. Grade level study guides created by MAPA’s Director of Programs help students and teachers link concepts from the play to other curricular areas and to Common Core State Standards.

School reservations for the 2020-2021 school year will be open this summer. Please check back soon.

MAPA’s Voices program teaches literacy skills through drama to over 3,500 elementary school students on Maui each school year. Through multi-week residencies, students improve their reading comprehension skills while learning the foundations of drama. Professional teaching artists collaborate with the classroom teachers so that each drama lesson is directly linked to classroom curricula.

Now touring “Birds of a Feather,” written by Kathy Collins! What happens when birds of a different feather flock together? In this original tale set on Maui, Moa (the Hawaiian chicken), Pīkake (the peacock), and Manu’aipilau (the mynah) struggle to accept and learn to appreciate their differences, eventually realizing the strength in their diversity. They also discover, to their great surprise, they are more alike than not.
